Abacus Bar & Kitchen – Prahran
Like a cold, tall glass of Rose on a summers day, Abacus is cool and refreshing. The new Prahran venue adds some class to Chapel Street as a stunning new event space. We were lucky enough to be invited to the official launch of Abacus and provide you with the following run down.
Owner Dylan Whitmore has teamed up with Chris Connolly (ex-Top Paddock) and crafted a stunning venue with a modern Australian menu with a Spanish and North African influence.
The duo thoroughly considered the size of the building and instead of following a standard format for a building refurb has provided a space for the former bank to truly shine, taking the tall ceilings and adorning them with lighting that would suit any art gallery and opening the building right up.
Two sides of the building open up onto Chapel and Elizabeth Streets and flood the venue with natural light, mix that with custom made seating, couches, small dining tables and bench seats for plenty is spots for your event guests to chill and converse.
The huge space is impressive and far from intimidating, it’s welcoming and warm with tropical foliage scattered amount the bespoke table and chairs. The venue artfully transformed by Architect Eats. The mix of timbers, stone, dark tiles, brass details & wicker furniture adds an artistic spin on an oversized space, a great place to sit and enjoy a drink with friends and family. The kitchen and bar hug the room beautifully and allow space for your guests to wander and mingle with ease.
Add to that an inventive and delicious menu that will have your guests satisfied throughout your entire event. Simple ingredients pack a punch when smoked, spread or baked to create tasty canapés and divine pizzas that hit the spot. The Abacus bar staff are fun, friendly, efficient but mostly approachable and truly know how to whip up an Espresso Martini.
